with one comment

Hilary BennFollowing the publication of the Climate Change Bill, Environment Secretary Hilary Benn will take part in a live webchat on the 10 Downing Street website, and will answer questions on the theme of climate change and floods.

“This Bill is a landmark in environmental legislation and will set us firmly on the path to the low-carbon economy we know is fundamental to our future. We need to provide the framework that will give Government, businesses and individuals a clear idea of how we’re going to tackle climate change, and will support action.”

The webchat will take place at 5pm on Monday 19 November. Sign up to submit a question or watch the webchat.

  1. I submitted two questions in advance, neither of which passed the vetting process. The thing kicked off 15 minutes late because Mr Benn was delayed, and went on for about an hour, with long pauses between questions and answers.

    This was my favourite exchange:

Nige34: Why won’t you, as a government accept that global warming is a natural occurence that happens every few thousand years and has NOTHING to do with the actions of man, instead of peddling what we all see as tax-raising propoganda?

Hilary replies: We have better things to do with our time Nige34. I am not a scientist but I listen to what they are saying. If you think you know better, so be it. But when we are warned about a risk then government has a duty to take it seriously.

That’s telling ’em! The impact is only slightly reduced by the fact that the original webchat response was from the moderator, and history has been changed in an Orwellian fashion to accredit Mr Benn. And you would think our government people would know how to spell ‘propaganda’ would you not?
